group project

I realize last time I asked for assistance I kinda did my own thing anyway, but I'm coming to you for help again.

I have an issue at the top of my stairs. Turns out all the times I did my walk through of the house, there was always a rug here. Didn't seem weird so I never looked underneath. Mistake. Turns out there's a huge chunk of wood floor missing that has been replaced with a plain board of plywood. So, my dilemma is what to do with this piece of floor.

The stairs will be painted, but not white. There is a possibility that they may be painted different colors. This section also runs into the computer room, which is full wooden floor in good shape (better shape after we refinish it).

Section is 4' x 5'. All ideas welcome.

I saw in a magazine where someone painted an area on their deck to look like a rug, perhaps the same technique can be applied to your floor. I say paint a huge crawfish over that spot which should go well with the "cajun house". Otherwise, you can check "The Floor Store" to see if they have a better option.
